Coming off the two of most popular Trophy Room releases to date with the TR Ice Blue Air Jordan 5 in 2019, and the TR Air Jordan 1 Retro Freeze 0ut in 2021. With the latter being the most controversial. Marcus Jordan and Trophy Room are coming back with an Air Jordan 7, with Olympic inspiration.
Not only taking inspiration from the Original Air Jordan 7 Olympic, this sneaker also has another story to tell through it’s details. The Trophy Room Air Jordan 7 uses the same colors seen on the Olympic 7 from 1992 but mixes up the color blocking. The upper consists of premium suede overlays in cream, met with premium red underlays. The neoprene tongue and ankle support comes in Obsidian blue. Red, white, and Blue laces with gold tips are included also. A gold Jumpman sits above an embossed MJ signature at the ankle on both sneakers. Moving on to the back heel replacing the AJ7’s signature 23, sits gold details with the Trophy Room logo on the left, and MJ’s Olympic number 9 on the right. Keeping with the Olympic theme a muilti-colored pull tab finishes out the heel details referencing the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. The midsole almost looks like it came strait off the original Olympic 7, featuring the same color blocking, but with an aged look. Hits of gold, obsidian, and true red are seen throughout the midsole, outsole and lace eyelets.
While this design is heavily inspired by the original Air Jordan 7 Olympic, it’s all part of a bigger story of what happened during the Olympics, well actually in practice dubbed “The Greatest Game Nobody Ever Saw”. In 1992 the greatest array of basketball talent ever assembled on one team took the court to represent the United States at the Olympics in Barcelona 1992. The “Dream Team” took home gold with relative ease. Except the greatest game went unseen in an empty gym during the Dream Team’s practice in Monte Carlo.
Details on the sneaker highlighting this scrimmage start behind the tongue with the phrase “New Sheriff In Town” marking the start of MJ’s dominance. The phrase originated after that famous Dream Team scrimmage. The inner tag dates June 22nd, 1992 referencing the Sports Illustrated “How Sweet It Is” cover story featuring Jordan. More details can been seen on each insole at the heel. The left a Trophy Room logo with their motto “Welcome To The Family”along with the year 1992. Staying with the theme, The right insole features the Air Jordan Logo with “The Greatest Game Ever Monte Carlo” printed around it referencing where that scrimmage was played. The same design seen on the tongue of the original AJ7 “Hare” is printed on the insoles.
Like all Air Jordan Trophy Room Collabs, The Air Jordan 7 comes with special packaging. The box features a Jumpman logo on top, and The Trophy Room and NIKE logos on the sides. Inside the box in each corner reads the date June 22, 1992, referring again the SI cover. The right corner reads Monte Carlo, Monaco representing where the “Greatest Game” was played that Summer. At the center on the bottom of the lid reads the phrase “New Sheriff In Town” again referencing the start of MJ’s dominance coined by Magic Johnson. The inside of the box where the shoes lay resembles the Monte Carlo gym where the infamous scrimmage was played. Lastly a clipboard with Jumpman and Trophy Room branding at the top is also included.
